I was surprised to learn however, that some women feel it is too risky to speak out publicly. Be sure to check out Part 2. It is equally interesting...and I close it out with my take on the matter.
john pototschnikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00728524231280036261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2338566507821664895.post-86218050060139882582013-07-21T09:21:58.941-05:002013-07-21T09:21:58.941-05:00Hi John:

I guess I ...Hi John:

This post is just fantastic!

I guess I found it eye opening because I never would have guessed that the art world seems so unequal here in the states.

The woman artists you profiled were accomplished, skilled, articulate, and had lots of fortitude in establishing themselves as successful artists.

It is a sad state of things when equality seems so prevalent today.

But I'm glad that you wrote this post, continuing to help us become aware of the many great women (and men) creating wonderful works of art for people to enjoy.

God bless,

Bob.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2338566507821664895.post-58876119084214185712013-07-15T12:23:23.569-05:002013-07-15T12:23:23.569-05:00Very interesting discussion, everyone. It really ...Very interesting discussion, everyone. It really attracted me because of a comment someone made about my favorite painting from the Augusta, MO Plein Air Event. She (a female artist friend) said, "Gee, Teddy, I thought your painting belonged to one of the guys." I have to say I took that as a compliment. Of course, with a name that is easily perceived to a male, perhaps, that is just alright.
Thanks, John and all your wonderful contributors, too.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07001997236000920739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2338566507821664895.post-17753391256173475282013-07-15T06:51:06.275-05:002013-07-15T06:51:06.275-05:00Very good discussion and thanks for bringing this ...Very good discussion and thanks for bringing this up. I noticed the inequity at the First Plein Air Convention in Las Vegas when one of the male presenters talked and never mentioned any of the wonderful female top-tier artists that are collected today.

I had a very distinguished looking gentleman tell me once when I was doing demonstration paintings for a pastel manufacturer, "Ma'am, you are no lady!" He was smiling, so I was able to ask why he made that comment. His response was, "I would have thought a man painted that painting due to the strokes used." I knew he meant it as a compliment, but it did set me to thinking what are the differences. The late Ann Templeton told me once, "Women paint mostly with curves, and men paint with angles."Marsha Hamby Savagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16121453066638558910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2338566507821664895.post-58867774127820952442013-07-14T18:34:42.933-05:002013-07-14T18:34:42.933-05:00Oops. I've been advised (by a more successful female artist than me) that she signs paintings with only her last name...in a strong linear (not scripts, girlie) strokes.
